This week, we will celebrate Obon. In many Japanese-based Buddhist traditions, Obon is an annual festival for honoring one's ancestors, families, and communities. Similar to the Mexican Day of the Dead and typically held in July or August (it was held on August 16th this year), the ceremony offers prayers, reflections, and blessings to those who have come before us, with space to honor their impacts to our own lives.

While our own celebration won't be as involved (or religious) as what is typically practiced in Japanese Buddhist monasteries, we will spend the evening contemplating our own stories: the people who have impacted us and the ways we impact others in the world. I hope you'll join us.

FYI, we have about 15-20 people join us each week, many of whom do not RSVP here.

Join us each Monday evening at 6:30pm at Central Penn College, Room 204 in the ATEC building, for a weekly Buddhist meditation service as we seek to find peace in our hearts, connect with the world around us, and discover meaning during challenging times.

Each service includes a period of meditation followed by a talk and discussion on a teaching of the Buddha.

Open to all faiths and backgrounds, join us as we come together in celebration of inner peace, loving-kindness, joy, and compassion.
