Weekly Buddhist Meditation, Topic: The Imperfect Buddha
Details
Statues of the Buddha depict a perfect being: golden, peaceful, and infinitely wise, but scratching the surface of the Buddha's myth reveals a much more complicated person when viewed under a modern lense.
This week, we'll explore some often-overlooked (or radically rationalized) aspects of the Buddha's life, namely his relationship with his son, Rahula, who he abandoned shortly after his birth, and his aunt, Prajapati, who became the first Buddhist nun only after years of asking (a much different path than her male peers).
If the Buddha wasn't perfect, then what does this mean for us? This week, we'll discuss it.
Join us each Monday evening at 6:30pm at Central Penn College, Room 204 in the ATEC building, for a weekly Buddhist meditation service as we seek to find peace in our hearts, connect with the world around us, and discover meaning during challenging times.
FYI, we typically have between 15 and 20 people join us, many of whom don't RSVP here. Come join us!
Each service includes a period of meditation followed by a talk and discussion on a teaching of the Buddha.
Open to all faiths and backgrounds, join us as we come together in celebration of inner peace, loving-kindness, joy, and compassion.
