Terrain: Varied | Estimated mileage: 2 miles miles

Our 2026 Walk will again be led by Jen Santoro, Assistant Professor at Villanova University. We'll be exploring recent forest additions to the Welkinweir preserve, identifying tree species
using leaves, bark, seeds, whether they are native or non native, and the benefits of those species (e.g., if they’re great for pollinators, good understory trees, etc.)
Jen will also talk about forest composition and structure, asking folks what they notice as we’re walking through different areas. And we'll have a forest activity to measure trees (the kids love this!) and compare the ranges of diameters measured and the species composition. All ages welcome!

ACCESSIBILITY OF WALK: Natural trails, can be rocky, hilly
Wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen and bug / tick spray recommended
Bring water to drink
