Apache Cassandra (http://cassandra.apache.org/) is a scalable, distributed, fault tolerant database the provides large and small companies with linear scalability and continuous availability. It's in use at Java based companies such as Netflix, Python based ones such as Instagram and .Net ones such as NativeX. The last few years have seen dramatic improvements in performance and usability that have resulted in a large increase in the user base.

For almost 2 years the project has been working to create a SQL like query language called CQL with the aim of reducing the barriers to entry. The result is CQL 3 which exists along side the original Thrift RPC interface. This allows developers to chose between the more flexible RPC API and the more abstracted CQL model that can be accessed through a native .net driver.

In this talk Aaron Morton, Co Founder & Principal Consultant at The Last Pickle (thelastpickle.com), Apache Cassandra Committer and DataStax MVP for Cassandra, will start with an overview of how Cassandra works as a distributed database. Before presenting C# examples for accessing Cassandra using the latest driver.
