Hemingway's novel of the Spanish Civil War, based on his experiences. A regular visitor to Spain, Hemingway returned there in 1937 to cover the war for US newspapers. For Whom the Bell Tolls was published in 1940, the year after the war ended and a wider war had begun.
VENUE
We meet in the ‘Games Room’, The Library's private area overlooking Courtenay Place. After you enter the bar, head to your right (up the step) and through a smaller space with booths to the large carpeted space beyond.
