1984 by George Orwell + Julia by Sandra Newman

For August we're reading Orwell's classic work 1984 alongside Julia, a recent (2023) retelling from the perspective of Winston's lover. Julia has been described as a "dramatically different, feminist narrative that is true to and stands alongside the original".

So, two books this time (though many will have read 1984; a few of us relatively recently). Plus there are five weeks between July's session and this August one, meaning more time for reading!

We meet in the ‘Games Room’, The Library's private area overlooking Courtenay Place. After you enter the bar, head to your right (up the step) and through a smaller space with booths to the large carpeted space beyond.
