What we’re about

This group is for anyone interested in supporting the vibrant Wellington live music scene. We started with jazz gigs but now include blues, soul, and funk bands since they are all musically related, plus reggae 'cos I like it.

If you are keen on a gig, RSVP, and look out for other members. Having someone to sit with can make the evening more social.

One final point. Most people are there to listen to the performer, so please hold your chat until a break in the music.

WJC is pleased to be able to re-schedule the Michael Taylor Quintet.

Recently returned from a second stint in the USA, Mike Taylor is excited to debut a whole bunch of new music at WJC on May 1. On his first stint, he earned his Masters' in Music from Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He has toured extensively, playing around the world and recorded on many albums, including Tūī award-winning Jazz Albums of the Year and platinum-selling records. Joining Mike will be:

Blair Latham (tenor saxophone and guitar), Duncan Haynes (keyboards), Seth Boy (bass), Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa (percussion).

A full 15-piece big band with featured special guests is playing brand-new arrangements of your favourite snow-falling, up-by-the-fire-cozying, sled-riding, cold-weather songs. Fun! Uplifting! Heartwarming!

This hot new quintet is equipped with all the finest bebop tunes from the 40s and 50s and is ready to go at a moment's notice. They will play a range of songs, from Charlie Parker classics to underground tunes by Lou Donaldson and Fats Navarro.
Appearing for the first time at the Undercurrent, the band is excited to present a new set of rare tunes and bop classics. Expect exhilarating swing, gorgeous ballads, and intricate melodies. Come along for an exciting night of music, relax on a comfortable chair, and join us as we explore these iconic tunes.
