What we’re about
This group is for anyone interested in supporting the vibrant Wellington live music scene. We started with jazz gigs but now include blues, soul, and funk bands since they are all musically related, plus reggae 'cos I like it.
If you are keen on a gig, RSVP, and look out for other members. Having someone to sit with can make the evening more social.
One final point. Most people are there to listen to the performer, so please hold your chat until a break in the music.
I look forward to meeting you, Andy

See all- Wellington HeadsUnderworld Tavern, Wellington
Named after the rugged beauty of Wellington’s southern coastline, Wellington Heads bring their signature blend of swing, soul, and rhythm & blues to the Capital Blues Concert Series. With over 20 years of groove under their belts and a sound shaped by Kansas blue jazz, New Orleans funk, and Pacific rhythms, this six-piece is pure leg jiggle magic :)
Cooler than a southerly. Hotter than a horn solo.
Playing predominately original music, Wellington Heads have evolved their own sound through the influences of Kansas style blue jazz, the swinging rhythm n blues of Louis Jordan and Ray Charles, Chicago blues and infused with Pacific/Hawaiian rhythms, New Orleans grooves and Latino feels. They regularly delight audiences at a number of Wellington venues and are frequently invited to perform outside of Wellington. Over the years they have played Auckland, Tauranga, Manawatu, Nelson and Wellington Jazz and Blues Festivals.
Wellington Heads have recorded six albums, their latest, ‘World Keep On Turning’ was released in December 2023. This album continues their unique sound with a mix of rhythm n’ blues, swing, soul and latino grooves. In combining this with their previous albums, Wellington Heads have built an extensive repertoire of eclectic original songs.
Neil Worboys – vocals, guitar, harmonica, Bill Wood – guitars, Geoff Keith – bass, Nic Deighton – drums, Phil Costello – saxophone, Andy Weir – trumpet.

It's good to see another venue supporting our local musicians.
Lockie Bennett (guitar), Elijah Mulheron (bass), and Cory Champion (drums) will be playing some jazzy grooves, just right for a Sunday afternoon.
Get along before Cory leaves for an overseas assignment.
The venue has a burger in the WOAP food festival, so you can support another event at the same time.
