And we’re back! And not just for any new year, but for our 30th. That makes us the longest running blues club in the southern hemisphere.
Besides a New Year, we also have a new venue, and lots of other great stuff coming for you in 2026.
Meanwhile, we have an old favourite to open up for us.
Yes, Oscar Lavën’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Sax will be our first act of 2026.
They always give us a high-energy show with lots of virtuoso playing. The band remains as popular as ever and is one of the acts people ask us to book again and again.
For those new to their music, they will be bringing you hot, honking, rock ‘n’ roll and R&B sax licks from saxophonists like Sam Butera, King Curtis, and Earl Bostic. Plenty of grooves and easy dancing music.
Our new venue also ticks all the boxes.
It’s Thunder Road on Blair St in the CBD, off Courtenay Place. Matt, the owner, used to run Jack Hackett’s, so knows Capital Blues and is looking forward to welcoming us back.
Besides being a handy location, it is ground level access with parking right outside, and buses are only 30m away. It also has a range of some fabulous beers and wines too. Not your everyday big brewery drinks, but top-quality brews. There are also great bar snacks, and well-trained staff. It’s everything you asked for.
The time is also what our members asked for, from 7 to 9pm.
Tickets are $20 or $10 for members, and there is a 10% discount at the bar.
As Muddy Waters said, “The blues had a baby, and named it rock ‘n’ roll.“
See you there.
