Cafe Scientifique - Bearing Witness to Climate Change

Details

February Cafe Scientifique: Bearing Witness to Climate Change with international artist Diane Burko.

Diane Burko devotes her practice in painting and photography to communicating issues of climate change. For the past decade, she has documented the disappearance of glaciers in large-scale series of paintings and photographs in close collaboration with glaciologists.

Her “bearing witness” at the three largest ice fields in the world: Svalbard and Ny-Alesund (2013), Greenland (2014) Antarctica (2013, 2015) and Argentina’s Patagonia (2015) enrich and inform her work leading to exhibitions that begin a dialog with audiences not initially interested in science.

Diane is going to show us some of her work and talk to us about her journey from being a landscape artist to a landscape activist.

Cafe Scientifique is a place where anyone can come along and enjoy a range of science speakers in a relaxed, friendly environment.

The evening consists of a short talk followed by a Q&A. The talks are aimed at non-scientists, so everyone can enjoy and learn more about new scientific ideas.

This talk is being held in the upstairs function room at Leroy's Bar. Come along early and enjoy a meal downstairs before the doors open at 7pm.
