As Architects and IT Professionals who are Wellington based in 2025, it's undeniable that the chaos and uncertainty we're living through has a substantial effect - on ourselves, on our colleagues, on our whānau. How do we understand what this stress really does to us at work and home and create the resilience to continue to perform and stay human under these circumstances?

According to a 2017 survey (remember those pre-Covid, pre-public service cutback times?!) conducted by Southern Cross and Business NZ, 31.2 percent of employees said their level of stress had risen in the last two years. Over 40 per cent of workers in larger companies cite trying to hit targets as a big cause of stress. It is a simple fact that stress is a major health concern for a lot of organisations, not only for the health and wellbeing of their employees, but also for the cost of absenteeism and poor performance that this leads to.
Sometimes awareness is curative. Understanding the things that cause us to feel stress allows us to put strategies into place to ensure this doesn’t happen. Managing stress is something that is within all our control. Developing the mental and emotional skills that lead to resilience helps us overcome seemingly impossible hurdles and enables us to bounce back from tough times and to push through times of uncertainty.

Cillín Hearns, founder of Results Coaching is a former IT consultant and leader who has pivoted to building a highly successful leadership and performance coaching organisation. His Leadership Meetups are unmissable and I always come away from time with Cillín with new ideas and new perspectives.

What will you learn from this session?

  • Understand what stress actually is and how it impacts our mindset and physiology
  • Apply mental strategies to overcome negativity and harmful thought patterns

This session will be highly interactive, and don't forget to ask questions and talk to Cillín about what's on your mind. He has a wealth of techniques and knowledge at his fingertips for you to draw on.

Everyone is welcome - if you are in an IT/Digital role or considering one, you do architecture and you should come along and meet us. This talk will be particularly useful for folks considering an Architect role or want to know what Architects do.

This talk will be both in person and remote via Teams. I'll post links to the Teams session closer to the time.
