Architecture in 2025: Are we still relevant?

Details

The IT world keeps evolving — cloud-first, agile-at-scale, AI-everywhere. But has architecture kept up? Are architects still relevant in today’s fast-moving, product-led world? And if so… what kind of architect?

In this interactive session, we’ll explore what architecture looks like in 2025 — not in theory, but in practice. How do architects work across business and tech teams today? What skills actually matter when stepping into (or surviving in) an architecture role?

Your host, Mike Gilbert, is an Enterprise Architect at Z Energy, currently navigating the cultural and practical shifts that come from merging two IT teams — and two ways of working. From traditional waterfall to agile delivery and now a hybrid model, Mike brings firsthand insight into how architecture practice flexes (or struggles) in real-world settings.
Come for the conversation, stay for the debate — we want your perspectives too.

Everyone is welcome - if you are in an IT/Digital role or considering one, you do architecture and you should come along and meet us. This talk will be particularly useful for folks considering an Architect role or want to know what Architects do.

This talk will be both in person and remote via Teams. I'll post links to the Teams session closer to the time.
