Friday Night Hike - Hawkins Hill - Brooklyn

Details
Approx. 2-3 hour return
TL;DR:
- Steady easy evening walk
- Sights include
- Night Photography overlooking Wellington, and the Harbour
- Creatively designed Mailboxes
- Woofington Castle
- Wellington Wind Turbine
- Hawkins Hill Radar Dome
- more Night Photography opportunities out towards Owhiro Bay and Red Rocks
The forecast is for the rain to have stopped by this time, but I've chosen a nice steady open road to ascend that avoids having to deal with any slippery, muddy tracks (for now!).
It will also be dark, so a torch of any kind is advised.
Beginning at the corner of Ashton Fitchett Dr and Hawkins Hill Rd in Brooklyn, we will make our way up Hawkins Hill Rd, passing under the Wellington Wind Turbine on our way to the Hawkins Hill Radar Dome. After a brief stop for photos and a rest, we'll make our way back down the road to our starting location.
We'll pass by the Brooklyn Army Bunkers; get a lot of great opportunities for some night photography overlooking Wellington and the Harbour; see some VERY creative mailboxes by the local denizens; and even walk past "Woofington Castle."
Once we reach the Hawkins Hill Radar Dome, there's a selection of spots we can stop at for photos of the surrounding hills and mountains, aerial views over Wellington, and out towards Owhiro Bay and Red Rocks.
Difficulty: Grade 1-2.
