Monday Night Hike - Eastern Walkway - Strathmore

Details
Approx. 1.5-2 hour return
"Enjoy sweeping views over the south coast of Miramar Peninsula while walking through native bush on the Eastern Walkway. Loop back with an easy stroll along the coastline from Breaker Bay back to your starting point." - Wellington Regional Trails
"The Eastern Walkway extends along the southern end of Miramar Peninsula from the Tarakena Bay to Pass of Branda. The track is 2.5 km long and takes about 1.5 hours to complete. The track surface is mainly gravel and much of the track is exposed." - wellington.govt.nz
TL;DR:
- Sights include
- Ataturk Memorial
- Open views of Breaker Bay
- Brief stop by Fort Dorset with ...
- Potentially clear night views across the water to Pencarrow Head.
The Eastern Walkway is located south of Strathmore and Miramar.
Our main access will be from Moa Point Road, where a car park is located near the trailhead, as well as another car park nearby.
(I'll mark the main carpark and meeting point through the Meetup locations)
The first part of this loop walk takes us through the forest to the ridge, where we can enjoy the views of the coastline. If we're making good time, we can duck quickly over to Fort Dorset for more coastline views, and a possible view across to Pencarrow Head.
The second half is walking along the water and street, back to the trailhead.
It will also be dark, so a torch of any kind is advised.
Difficulty: Grade 1-2.
