Start the day by going for a run and coffee with hundreds of other friendly Wellingtonians in this free, tracked-time, volunteer-run event. This is a 5km running event held every Saturday, 8:00 am sharp along the central waterfront (beginning Waitangi Park Play Area, Herd St, facing Te Papa museum), suitable for all levels. Parkrun hosts a post-run coffee at Raglan Roast Coffee to socialize.
Parkruns are free, weekly, timed events held across the world every Saturday. Founded in 2004, there are now more than 2,000 events in 22 countries with the aim of getting millions of people together, outdoors and moving: whether a hardcore runner looking to beat your personal best (your finish time is scanned, register on their website **https://www.parkrun.co.nz/waitangi/** to have your time recorded toward a Parkrun milestone T-shirt – for participating in 100 runs), aiming to lose weight, being part of a community and meeting new friends, running, jogging, walking, or bringing a stroller or dog are all encouraged.
The Independent newspaper describes it like so (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkrun): “Parkrun is not simply one of the biggest sporting events in the world, but one of the most important, largely because it entirely upends what we have long been told sport is about. … Parkrun offers something entirely different: community, opportunity, the outdoors, the simple pleasure of sport and people.”
