Walking social - Great walks, everything you wished you knew
Details
We're doing something a bit different this month.
After our shortish walk in the CBD, we'll head to a pub with a display screen and talk about Great Walks.
Our speaker Mike has nearly knocked off all the Great Walks, and he's learned a thing or two about how to prepare and what to expect.
This talk is aimed at anyone considering or booked in to a Great Walk - whether you're new to multi-day tramping, reasonably confident, or 'trading down' from Tararua bush bashing.
Here is the plan:
(5:00pm: if you're coming from town, there is a gorgeous walk to Tinakori Road via: Boulton St, memorial gardens, the old cemetery, the rose garden)
5:30pm Meet outside Sprig and Fern Thorndon, on 342 Tinakori Road. Walk up to the top of Te Ahumairangi Hill and back
7:00pm Sprig and Fern Thorndon (upstairs), grab a beer or other beverage and learn all about the secrets of Great Walks. Be ready to ask questions, throw out opinions and generally heckle.
Walk will go ahead rain or shine. If the weather is truly awful the walking part of the event will be cancelled around midday and we'll go straight to the pub instead. Feel free to come straight to Sprig and Fern at 7pm if you have a sprained ankle or something.
