Over night tramp to Snowy hut Waiotauru River Otaki

Meet at the Paraparaumu Railway Stn (park in area across track) at 8.15am. Car pool to School House Flat Otaki Forks. Start at the Fenceline track. We will head up river following the Waiotauru track. There are two slips needing some care. Over the swing bridge and follow an old logging track down to the river. Several crossings are needed then pick up another old logging road to the Tregear confluence. Then back into the river, that means swimming a few pools. Have buoyancy in your pack. Bring extra layers to wear also a bag of dry clothes and towel to be left in the cars. Pack overnight gear and food in a dry bag. Bring a tent, tarp, or bivie. Most people will need to camp out as the hut is very small, We should take about six hours. Have map and compass or gps system. Whistle, emergency bag/bivie and torch compulsory items per person. This is a wet feet overnight tramp involving slippery rocks and unmarked routes. 15 km return slow river going some navigation is required. Not suitable for beginners.
