Overnight trip to the resited Leon Kinvig hut Ruahine Park

This tramp is from the Western side to Leon Kinvig hut. It is for experienced well equipped trampers used to navigating off the tops. I would like 4 in the group. It is not automatic, please put your name on the wait list and I will manually accept you if you have proven abilities. You are responsible for your own safety, be well equipped, and research the route prior. There are big climbs and descents, the pace will be slow and steady. Once on top of Ngamoko range from Shorts track there is a poled route south for about 1 km.
A brand new track then leads off down past .1298

Mon car pool from my place 22a Fytfield Place Paraparaumu. Have a leisurely drive to Petersons Rd, then walk into Alice Nash hut for the night. That gives us a good early start next day.
Tues return to the car and drive along Limestone Rd, park up at the start of Shorts track. Steady climb to the top 1380m. Navigation is required to point 1298 and the descent to Leon Kinvig hut. It will be a hard 10km day.
Weds return same way. We will be very tired so share the driving on the return home.
Two hut tickets are needed, or an annual hut pass.
