Battle Hill to Whareroa farm traverse. Logging operations are still ongoing midweek so this traverse can only be done in the weekend.
Cars will be left at Whareroa farm 8.30 am by those living north. We then drive to the start at Battle Hill where we meet those living south. Set off to tramp at 9am sharp. Walk under Transmission Gully and up through the felled pines following the new logging roads. Turn left at the top into the native bush. There are some surprisingly lovely large native trees on the ridge. Take the track north and summit Mt Wainui. Head down the track to the pond route leading towards Whareroa farm. At this point we cross into the pine trees on private land and I have permission from the owner Bill. I will shuttle Wellington people back to Battle Hill in my car.
