Overnight Totara Flats Hut Waiohine

Totara Flats Hut is a large modern hut on the eastern side of the Tararua Ranges. It costs $25 pp through the DOC booking system. I am happy to do a bulk booking as long as those who rsvp pay me back. Annual huts passes can also be used. The track from Waiohine is well marked and maintained making this trip suitable for beginners. There is a slip on the track where we need to walk upstream on the river bank. Therefore we will postpone if there is heavy rain forecast. For this reason I will delay booking until I get a current forecast. It is about 7km and going slowly takes about 5 hours.
If you are new to overnight trips please text me on 022-404-7100 and I can help you with gear. It is an early spring trip so could be quite cold. Bring appropriate warm gear. I will be leaving my place in Paraparaumu at 9.00am and can pick people up along the way. Those travelling separately meet at the Waiohine Rd end at 10.30am

• Bunks - platform (shared) bunks with mattresses in two bunkrooms
• Water supply - inside taps with cold water from a rain collection tank
• Heating - wood burner with firewood provided
• Long drop toilet a short walk from the hut

Huts have basic facilities. You'll need to take:

• Sleeping bag, warm clothes
• Cooking stove, pots/pans and utensils
• Toilet paper
• Rubbish bag
• Newspaper/firelighters and matches/lighter for the wood burner/fire
• Torch
