A herbal walk and plant study for homeschooled children (primary school ages)

Details
This walk is for Ealing Homeschooling Group.
It will be my first herbal walk for younger children plus parents and I hope to keep them well entertained and engaged.
We will try the following plan (which is fluid as I am still working it out in my head):
· Very short introduction to plants and their kingdom
· Why plants are important in our lives
· Plants as foods
· Plants as medicines
· Herbal walk itself will be simplified for children, to make sure they can digest and remember. We will meet quite a few plants on our walk around Blondin Park Nature Reserve.
· We will aim to work around one medicinal plant and a theme central to that plant (for example, HAWTHORN and HEART) if it is in flower by the 28th of April – if not it will be something else.
· Stories and myths about the plant
· How people used it in the past
· How we use it as medicine (and if applicable) food today
· After our fieldwork we will do "plant study" in Blondin Park Café – this might include plant prints, plant drawing, looking at basic botany (plant family, leaf/flower structure and type etc).
· Tasting the plant – in one form or another
About myself: I'm Julija, Thomas’ mum and I am a Practitioner of Herbal Medicine, a member of National Institute of Medical Herbalists.
This walk is FREE.
Duration: up to 2 hr
Note about weather: we meet rain or shine, but if the weather is really bad, we will re-schedule
