Meteor shower
Details
The Perseid meteor shower will peak the night of August 12 and August 13. While it will be best to see the meteor shower probably just after midnight, the last time I did this we were able to see plenty of them between 10 and 12..
August 12 is the peak night.
It is a new moon, so it should be very dark.
I’m bringing a blanket or towel to lay on to look up at the sky and watch the meteors. There is a big grassy area by Hopewell Lake while it is true that there is a pole light over by the bathroom, it’s not really that much of an issue. Also, the good news is there is a bathroom.
As long as it’s not cloudy, this should be one of the best nights ever to watch them.
Feel free to bring food, a snack, nonalcoholic drinks. Obviously bring a headlamp or something so you can see where you’re walking. It should be pretty dark.
This is not a hike. Just watching the meteors with a few of my favorite beverages and enjoy enjoying some peace and quiet and hopefully a little bit of conversation.
If you’re bringing a pet, be aware, you must pick up your pets poop. If you have a loud barking pet, that would be probably a bad thing for a night like this and you would annoy everybody by bringing them along.
