Boxmoor to Bovingdon circular walk

Last did this particular walk over 3 years ago! It’s a lovely, varied Autumnal walk.

We meet to leave at 10:30 prompt, from outside the little coffee shop on St. John’s Rd, (End of Cowper Rd, opposite Chip shop. HP1 1QN). Park on street anywhere near. No restrictions at weekends (check signs). Please arrive early enough to find a space and walk to start point 🚙

To start, we walk across the moor, over the old gas works and train tracks 🚂 and into Roughdown Common. Great views over Hemel, then sidle into woodlands 🌳 all the way to the old Roman road into Bovingdon. We’ll then skirt Little Hay golf course ⛳️ down through an enclosed lane and onto Boxmoor Trust’s new wooden walkway to their bird sanctuary 🦅 We then saunter back down a long cobbled track to meander along the serene canal 🦢 back to Boxmoor. We have a reserved space in the very Cosy Post Office Arms pub afterwards, if you fancy it, for a nice rewarding beverage 🍺☕️

Approximately 7.5-8 miles. Will be roughly 3-3.5 hours.
