Wheathampstead / Ayot St Lawrence Circular Walk 🦌
Details
Last did this walk over a year ago. Don’s putting it on again 🧨 It’s in a lovely, rural part of old Hertfordshire.
We will leave at 10:30 prompt from East Lane car park, Wheathampstead. AL4 8SB. Please be ready to leave 10 minutes beforehand 🚙
(NB: Sat Nav may take you to the wrong side of the river. East lane leads off the high street beside the Miller and Carter. It's NOT Mount Road) Free parking and toilet 🚻
From the car park we follow the calming River Lee to pick up little pathways to the historic Lamer House (rebuilt in 1761). We’ll move onto bridle paths to Ayot St Lawrence, where we’ll skirt round the village, taking in 2 churches ⛪️ (one being derelict) and the Brocket Arms pub (where we’ll inevitably sneak in a cheeky half🍷😉 as will stopping for a short half way break).
We then carry on through the village and pass Shaws Corner 📝 to then take other bridle paths to Waterend. The trail back follows the river Lee once more and back to our start point, whereby we’ll frequent The Swan pub for welcome refreshments🍺☕️ 🍔🍟
Roughly 3-3.5 hours and approx 8 miles.
NB: Meet Up cost is £2. Please pay on the day or preferably beforehand via this link: https://www.paypal.me/aac007 Please choose friends & family option only
