Angela's Essex Coastal Linear Walk to the City of Southend on Sea, 9 miles

Details
Nice coastal walk fairly flat with lovely views over the Thames Estuary.
Starting from Benfleet train station to Hadleigh Country Park (home of the Olympic Mountain bike track). Then onto the ruin of the 13th century Hadleigh Castle. Onto old Leigh where we stop for lunch. Lots of places for food, drink and toilets. After lunch we follow the sea wall through Chalkwell and Westcliff to Southend pier where we finish.
The walk can be extended with an optional walk along the world's longest Pier (1.3 miles) and 1.3 miles back. The cost for pier is £3.10 or £2.10 for over 60s.(ID required).
Return fare to Benfleet from Southend Central (Cliftown Road) is £1.45 with a senior railcard and £2.20 without.
There is a Wetherspoons (The Last Post) in Cliftown Road opposite Southend Central station, from where we get the train back to Benfleet, if anyone fancies a drink or bite to eat before our journey back.
Please can you email Angela on sonia6689@virginmedia.com if interested.
Subject to walk leaders approval we do allow well behaved dogs under full control of their owner. If you wish to bring your dog on the walk, please check with the walk leader before arriving for the walk.
NB: There is a £2 payment required for non-Ramblers Assoc. members to help cover our Meetup costs. Please help the walk leader by bringing the exact change.
Ramblers members are welcome on any of our walks, but we would still encourage you to RSVP on Meetup. This will give our volunteer walk leaders an idea of how many are attending, and also keep the numbers manageable. If, on the day of the walk, you are still on the waiting list and a Ramblers member, you can attend - just let the walk leader know you are coming by adding a comment 'Coming as a Rambler'. You will find the start location via our website
Our Walks (westkentwalkinggroup.org.uk).
