Capital Ring 1 - Woolwich to Grove Park, moderate, 11 miles linear

This is the first of our Capital Ring walks. There is no obligation to do all of them - you can pick and choose the ones that you fancy…

We will meet at 10am outside Woolwich Arsenal station. There are plenty of trains from London Bridge and some coffee shops nearby for those who like to arrive early.

Our first destination will be down to the Woolwich Ferry which is the official start of the Capital Ring – and where we will finish next year! We follow the river up to the Thames Barrier and then head inland past Charlton House onto Woolwich Common. We then tick off Eltham Common before heading up Shooters Hill. We will stop for lunch at a café in Oxleas Meadows which has great views – if we are lucky with the weather…

In the afternoon we skirt along-side Eltham Warren Golf Club, follow King Johns walk (nope I had never heard of it either) for a short stretch before arriving at Eltham Palace where we will stop for an afternoon break. It is then a short walk to Grove Park with regular trains to London – or a short bus journey to Bromley and services to Kent.

This is a no dog walk

NB: There is a £2 payment required for non-Ramblers Assoc. members to help cover our Meetup costs. Please help the walk leader by bringing the exact change.
Ramblers members are welcome on any of our walks, but we would still encourage you to RSVP on Meetup. This will give our volunteer walk leaders an idea of how many are attending, and also keep the numbers manageable. If, on the day of the walk, you are still on the waiting list and a Ramblers member, you can attend - just let the walk leader know you are coming by adding a comment 'Coming as a Rambler'.
