Walking the London Marathon, 26.5 miles, strenuous
Details
We are following (as close as we can - we can't arrange road closures!) the route of the London Marathon. It is obviously a long long way but feel free to start the walk and drop out when you want to - there is no pressure on reaching the end
Short breaks and lunch are factored into the timings - but the majority of the time will be walking - expect a walking pace of a little over 3 miles an hour
As a rough gauge - key landmarks are Cutty Sark (6 miles), Tower Bridge (12 miles), Canary Wharf (18 miles) London Eye (25 miles). It is also worth highlighting that the route isn't scenic - it has to go along main roads as for the actual marathon it isn't a small group of people doing the route - it is 50k!
And before anybody asks - the distance will be more than 26.2 miles - we have to allow extra to get from the meeting point to the start...
This is a no dog walk.
Please note that there is a £2 payment required for non-Ramblers members to help cover our Meetup costs. Please help the walk leader by bringing the exact change.
Members of the Ramblers Association are welcome on any of our walks, but we would still encourage you to RSVP on Meetup. This will give our volunteer walk leaders an idea of how many are attending, and also to keep the numbers manageable. If, on the day of the walk, you are still on the waiting list and a Ramblers member, you can attend just let the walk leader know you are coming by adding a comment 'Coming as a Rambler'. You will find the start location via our website Our Walks (westkentwalkinggroup.org.uk).
