King Charles III Coast Path around the Isle of Sheppey ( 35 miles), strenuous
Details
This is the England Coast Path section of the isle of Sheppey. We start from Queensborough and walk anti-clockwise around the island, passing through various nature reserves. There are potentially 2 drop out points. The first at 12 miles, but a taxi will be needed. The 2nd at Leysdown at 22 miles. Here 2 buses or 1 bus and a train will be needed to return to Queensborough.
If you are thinking of walking the whole route, please be mindful of the following -
You need to bring plenty of water, as there will be limited opportunity for refill during the Southern half of the island. There is water after 12 miles.
Bring a head torch, Hi Viz, spare socks, and maybe some blister plasters.
The route passes a nudist beach for about 100 metres at Shellness
The path is not fully open, so there will be around 4 miles of quiet road walking between Warden and Minster.
If you are thinking of staying overnight, there are plenty of hotels in Sittingbourne. Its a 15 min train journey. A train leaves Sittingbourne at 07.23 and arrives at 07.36
It would be great if you could contact me, to give me an idea of numbers.
Subject to walk leaders approval we allow well-behaved dogs under full control of their owner. If you wish to bring your dog on the walk, please check with the walk leader before arriving for the walk.
Please note that there is a £2 payment required for non-Ramblers members to help cover our Meetup costs. Please help the walk leader by bringing the exact change.
Members of the Ramblers Association are welcome on any of our walks, but we would still encourage you to RSVP on Meetup. This will give our volunteer walk leaders an idea of how many are attending, and also to keep the numbers manageable. If, on the day of the walk, you are still on the waiting list and a Ramblers member, you can attend just let the walk leader know you are coming by adding a comment 'Coming as a Rambler'. You will find the start location via our website Our Walks (westkentwalkinggroup.org.uk).
