West Michigan AI Lab - March - Hosted by GRCC

Details
Mark your calendars for another great West Michigan AI Lab event on March 19th! We're excited to have Graeme Timmeney as our featured speaker!
Graeme is a proud graduate of Western Michigan University, where he earned his MS in Geography in 2021. Now serving as the GIS Director at Blue Carbon International, Graeme is at the forefront of applying cutting-edge AI technologies to map and protect ocean ecosystems on a global scale. Specializing in remote sensing and habitat mapping, he brings a unique blend of technical expertise and environmental passion to his work. Graeme's extensive experience includes integrating high-resolution satellite imagery, advanced machine learning models, and both above (and below) surface drones to tackle some of the planet’s most pressing ecological challenges. With a mission to safeguard marine ecosystems and drive the growth of blue carbon economies, he is dedicated to harnessing technology for a more sustainable future.
Graeme's presentation, "AI for the Planet" explores the transformative role of geospatial AI and remote sensing in addressing today’s environmental challenges. This presentation provides an overview of the industry, showcasing how satellite-derived data and machine learning are used to monitor ecosystems, map underwater habitats, and mitigate climate change. Graeme Timmeney will discuss concrete examples of GeoAI applications, including foundational AI models used for geospatial analysis and remote sensing. From identifying land cover changes to detecting marine pollution, the talk will highlight how these technologies deliver actionable insights. The presentation concludes with the potential of AI-driven solutions to support initiatives like carbon credits, demonstrating their role in building a more sustainable future.
Thank you to our hosts, GRCC!
