Upper Ausable paddle

Details

Most people are staying at Hartwick Pines Campground for the weekend.
lunch stop is about 2.5 hours in and a long stop for play time!
Lots of surfing down the hill into the water.
I would rate this upper beginner
Leave Campground at 9:41AM, (if you’re meeting the group at the Put-In be there by 10:14AM). Shuttle vehicles at 10:38AM. Once the drivers return, we will provide a safety brief, then do a group photo before anyone goes on the river.
Bring your snacks, water and lunch for the day.
The Ausable through this section varies from very narrow with trees tight on both banks to open meadows with multiple channels to choose from. There are many obstacles to maneuver around so it will challenge your boat handling skills. I would not recommend boats over 12-feet unless you are skilled at maneuvering a long boat in tight spaces. You will encounter sweepers and a few strainers along the way but the current is just moderate at about 3 miles per hour so the are no real hazardous parts in this paddle. The scenery and technical boat handling will make this a fun paddle for experienced river paddlers and a real challenge for less experienced paddlers.

Just West of N Kolka Creek Rd is a 2-track on the left when traveling West. Turn onto the 2-track and follow about 200 yards to an open area to unload boats and launch. GPS coordinates for launch site
