Pigeon River Wilderness Challenge

Details

Upper Pigeon River (Ford Lake Rd. to Webb Rd): THIS PADDLE IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Saturday, leave Onaway State Park at 9:03, 10:00 am meet at launch site and unload boats, 10:15 AM Shuttle vehicles, 11:00 AM Paddles in following safety talk and group photo. The Pigeon River through this section is remote and runs through the heart of Elk Country. There are many log hops, squeeze unders and may be some portages, the river gains depth as you go down river. You will encounter sweepers and a few strainers along the way with current at about 3.0 miles per hour so there are no real hazardous parts in this paddle. This section has some of the tighest spaces to maneuver your boat through of any river we have paddled. The scenery is spectacular in this pristine section of river. The trip will cover approximately 10 miles and should take about 5 hours including a lunch stop. We will take out at Webb Road Bridge. Volunteers for shuttle drivers are highly appreciated, and earn the "Guide" title in your profile. (please text Kristina to remind her) Once the drivers return, we will provide a safety brief, then do a group photo before anyone goes on the river. Please remember you are responsible for your own safety.
