Huron River Water Trail - Section 1 of 5
Details
***NEW SHUTTLE PLAN***
Meet at Placeway at 9:15 AM. Load boats and people into Tony's truck / trailer and be on our way by 9:30. Pick up Patty at Dawson at 9:45. Arrive to Proud Lake around 10 and get on the water.
While we wait for the beginning of the northern paddling season, let's paddle over on the east side again. I've long desired to thru-paddle the entire Huron River. For now, a section paddle will have to do. This trip will tackle the first leg of the five that normally comprise a thru-paddle. We will begin at Proud Lake, and end at the Placeway takeout in Island Lake. We will paddle about 19 miles over the course of the day, with 2-3 portages. We will paddle and keep moving, not just float, but this will not be a speedy "fitness" paddle. A few of us will be in canoes as we get ready for a trip to the Boundary Waters.
Pack a lunch and snacks, and of course plenty of hydration.
Proud Lake Modern Campground has availability if you are traveling from afar. Or if you'd like to end the paddle with camping, one of the canoe sites near the take-out it open on Saturday night.
Volunteers for shuttle drivers are highly appreciated.
Once the drivers return, we will provide a safety brief, then do a group photo before anyone goes on the river.
