Wappenbury and Weston under Wetherley, Warwickshire
Details
This walk is through rural Warwickshire fields, taking in an ancient woodlands and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust reserves of Bubbenhall Wood and Wappenbury Wood. We’ll walk through the former sand and gravel quarry, now restored nature reserve of Bubbenhall Meadow, where ice-age fossil remains of a straight-tusked elephant have been found. We have the chance to look in three churches en route in the villages of Wappenbury and Weston-under-Wetherley. The lunch stop is planned at the lovely Red Lion pub in Hunningham to have refreshments and a comfort break. Please bring your own lunch as we won’t be staying long enough to order a Sunday roast, but should be an option for chips or sides!
As dogs aren’t allowed in Wappenbury Wood so this walk is not recommended for dogs. The route is stile free. It is likely to be muddy as we’ll be trekking some arable fields so wellies or walking boots are recommended. One section of the path is a little overgrown.
