# Mini-skirts, bouffants and forgotten hits: The unsung women of the British Invasion
All right, stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The 1960s were a wild time for music. I know, shocker. It’s arguably the decade that pop music as we know it flowered from, and one of the key movements we have to thank for that was the British invasion. A group of sharp, young bands and artists, influenced by the first strains of rock ‘n’ roll from across the pond, began selling it back to the genre’s homeland. The opening salvo, so the story goes, came with The Beatles and the Dave Clark Five but grew to include The Kinks, Herman’s Hermits, The Rolling Stones, yadda-yadda-yadda.
What more could possibly be said about it? Well, take a look back at that list of bands and artists. What unites them all? It’s all very dude-heavy. You might think that that’s just the way it was, that women weren’t a part of what we call the ‘British invasion’ today. Looking at the charts, though, history might say differently. History and The Beatles themselves, as they were instrumental in bringing one of the first women of the British invasion to stardom!
$15.00 per guest includes coffee and dessert.
We will have a table to sit together under the stars.
Please come and support this evening. It would be greatly appreciated.
