What we’re about
Come and Join the Funcc Train!
Tired of the same old solo workouts? Searching for free community activities with soul? Do you love music and spontaneous joy? In the last week, has anyone told you to touch some grass?
Come and Join the Funcc Train, the heart-child of Bodyrock Bootcamp and Clownfish Creative.
It's simple: we walk up and down West Philly's Lancaster Ave with our Funcc Bags (we'll provide them), play music (bring an instrument!), and do exercises along the way (Nate from Bodyrock is a personal trainer). Come for music, fitness, community, or all three. All people are welcome. In fact, we'd love to build a space for people of all body types, ages, abilities and origin. We need more of these spaces, don't ya think?
Let me tell you the story behind all of this. I'm sure you're wondering what a Funcc Bag is. I'll get to that.
Alex met Nate Mcintyre by chance while on his daily Hot Girl Walk along Lancaster Ave. in West Powelton. Alex and I co-run Clownfish Creative, a marketing firm, so he stopped into Bodyrock Bootcamp to ask the owner if he needed any marketing services.
Alex meets Nate, who tells him his story: he's owned BodyRock bootcamp on Lancaster Ave. for 20 years, is a Queer Eye Season 5 alum and the lead singer of a band called Killer Whale and the Great Whites. During the pandemic, Nate was concerned about the health of his clients. They couldn't come into the gym anymore. You know the story.
So, he created a solution for them: the FUNCC BAG, a multi-use product similar to a sandbag (Nate fills his Funcc Bags with rice, beans, and cotton). The Funcc Bag is an all-in-one kettlebell, dumbbell, and Bulgarian bag that lets you get fit at home, no matter your current fitness level. It's a staple in his gym, and he wants to share it with the community. This is Nate in a nutshell: his love for people is boundless. He is truly special.
That same day, Nate invites Alex to Porchfest, the legendary West Philly community music festival, where we watched his band perform --- on a porch. It was a beautiful experience. While Nate rocked out, we heard the soft sounds of a Senegalese Kora from a porch down the street. It was sublime.
Amid of all the chaos in the world, people came together to enjoy music and commune with one another. We felt energized and happy. We had this lingering feeling that there should be more of THIS in Philadelphia. Usually thoughts like these fade, and we sink back into the comfortable daily grind. But this time --- they didn't. Alex and I are stubborn dreamers, so that helps.
Back to the Funcc Bag and Nate Mcintyre.
Alex and I wanted to ride Nate's energy and SPREAD it. His passion for community building, music, and fitness is contagious. So, we came up with the West Philly Funcc Train, where funcc meets fitness.
Join us! The time for joy is always NOW.
