What we’re about
Missions/Objective
- After a certain point, there are no books or certifications that can be solely used to grow an organization's security program. The goal of this group is to provide a forum for seasoned security professionals to collaborate and share our experiences in order to continue growing in our careers. Additionally, within the cyber security industry, there is a LOT of information and none of us can be an expert in everything. So by having meaningful conversations to talk through the complex issues we're facing, we'll all be better prepared (and successful).
- There are currently no cybersecurity meetups in the west Phoenix valley. While this meetup will be primarily virtual, there will be occasions for us to connect in person (after COVID). However, this is NOT restrictive. If you happen to live on the east coast of the US, you're more than welcome to join.
Intended audience
- Primary: Seasoned security professionals who are currently managing (or have previously) other members of an IT/Infosec team
- Auxiliary: Emerging professionals who want to better understand how a security team can successfully support the needs of the larger organization
Meeting Mechanism
- Virtual Meeting (Zoom) once per month
Agenda & Format
- The panel members will rotate each month to make sure all seasoned security professionals have a chance to both offer their experiences and simply absorb
- We're aiming to have 3-5 panelist each meeting
- All panelist will receive the topic questions ahead of the meeting to ensure that each are ready to meaningfully respond (this isn't a test!) - Sharing links and helpful articles are encouraged
- Each meeting will last roughly 60-75 minutes
- 5-10 minutes for industry news and open roles
- 40 minute panel focused on 1-2 security program topics
- 15 minutes for audience questions - via chat
- Topics will vary each month but will be focused on how individual members have been successful in implementing changes for their organization
- Program assessment/development
- Building collaborative relationships with IT/business
- Balancing open-source and off-the-shelf applications
- Staying in front of identity access when the business is running to the cloud
- The constant flood of questionnaires from vendors and insurance companies
Rules
- No vendor or sales pitches - This includes both services and technology solutions from providers
- No acts of aggression - While we all have different backgrounds and having different opinions/approaches will be encouraged, we expect all members to be respectful and encouraging.
- Try not to interrupt someone others - There will be plenty of time to share individual experiences
- No recordings - we want to foster an open community that is willing to share our experiences. We cannot do that if we're worried about the future ramifications of our words.
- Everyone is welcome - This group is NOT solely on, or in support just cyber security professionals. We welcome anyone to join and take part as it makes sense, even if you aren't (yet) "technical".
