What we’re about
Welcome to the West Seattle LGBT+ Meetup Group! Our group is a safe and welcoming space for members of the LGBT+ community and allies in West Seattle and surrounding areas. We aim to provide a supportive community where members can connect with others who share their interests and experiences.
Who can join?
Our group is open to all members of the LGBT+ community, including but not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals. Allies are also welcome to join and support our community. You are not required to disclose your sexual orientation, gender identity, or relationship status in order to be a member of this group.
What do we do?
Our MeetUp events highlight West Seattle's small businesses and beautiful natural areas. We like trivia nights, drag shows, book clubs, walks/hikes, movies, LGBTQ+ cultural celebrations, Pride month, and much more! Whenever possible, events are all ages and low/no cost.
Be Real. Be Respectful. Be Kind. Be Safe.
Our group is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all members. We do not tolerate discrimination, hate speech, or any form of harassment. We ask that all members respect each other's identities and experiences.
Rules and Expectations
We adhere to MeetUp's usage and content policies. In addition to MeetUp's policies, we have a few additional expectations of our members. Please read these over carefully before joining.
Privacy
- Don't assume. People attending our events might not be out, or they might be an ally. Don't assume anyone's gender, orientation, or relationship status.
- Don't out anyone. If someone in public asks what our group is for, just say it's a local West Seattle group of friends. Or say we're a book club!
- Don't share information about others in group.
Communication in MeetUp
- Members are expected to check MeetUp messages sent from the organizer and, when applicable, respond in a timely manner.
- If members are attending an event, they are expected to communicate with the organizer via MeetUp, through MeetUp messages or comments on the event posting.
- The organizer will provide a phone number to confirmed attendees so members can reach the organizer by phone if needed.
RSVPs and No Shows
- RSVPs close 4 hours before an event starts.
- Keep your RSVP updated. If you're no longer planning to attend an event, update your RSVP to indicate you're not going.
- RSVPs must be updated no later than 4 hours before an event starts.
- If you do not update your RSVP, you do not communicate with the organizer, and you are a no show, you will be removed from the group. You can request to rejoin.
- If a member is a no show twice, it will result in the member being banned from the group.
Activity
- Members are expected to be active within our group every three months.
- "Active" is defined as visiting the group's MeetUp page, browsing events, communicating with the group or the organizer, and, of course, attending events!
- If you are inactive for more than three months (meaning you don't visit the group's MeetUp page or otherwise interact with the group in any way), you will be removed from the group. You're welcome to rejoin when you have more time to interact.
