A Little Something Different - A Visit to a Chicago Neighborhood

Details

I thought I would try a little something different with the group this weekend. How about visiting a neighborhood in Chicago with my photography group?

If you have never visited this part of Chicago or maybe did not even know about it this would be the perfect opportunity to see a Chicago neighborhood with a group. I will act as the guide as this is the area where my great grandfather Kolar settled with his family (including my 6 year old grandfather) back in 1904 when the family came here from the Czech Republic which at that time was part of the Austrian-Hungary empire.

The neighborhood since the 1950's has been mainly a Hispanic neighborhood but retains a lot of the original architecture from the Czech era along with some very interesting graffiti art as you can see from the photo I have included for the outing.

After our walk there are a number of good restaurants in the area where we can enjoy lunch. If you plan on staying for lunch please bring along cash as a number of establishments only take cash and if we get a table as a group, it is much easier to settle up the account for everyone.

For those of us from the suburbs there is plenty of free parking in the Pilsen neighborhood. Just pay attention to the signs you see on the street you park. I usually park by Harrison Park on 18th Avenue which is also right near the Mexican Art Cultural Center.
