The book selected for our May meeting is “The Dog Stars” by Peter Heller

The novel picks up 9 years after a flu epidemic has devastated the human population. Set in Colorado, Hig lives a lonesome existence in an airplane hangar with his dog Jasper and Bangley, a dour human with a past of his own. When a mysterious transmission comes through on the radio, Hig sets out to discover if life as he once knew it may still exist.

Hi! I’m Hilary, the founder of West Valley Books and Booze. I’m hoping to foster a welcoming environment to meet and discuss/ debate the merits of quality contemporary and classical literature. I feel like a lot of book clubs are geared towards traditionally “women’s literature “, which is great but I wanted something different. A little more inclusive. Darker. Grittier. Please come having read the book and prepared to discuss on an intellectual level. The Dog Stars is a book with some pretty big feels.
