Please ensure read the warnings in the weekends main event page here before signing up. People are welcome to join us for this hike only. No requirement to do hike #1.

Hike #2 - Mosedale Horseshoe - 4-6 Wainrights - Kirk Fell, Pillar, Scoat Fell , Steeple (Optional), Red Pike (Mosedale), Yewbarrow (Optional)

Depending how those of us that did hike#1 legs feel, we may do this in reverse, less intense ascent at the start but a steeper descent.

Meet at Wasdale - Lake Head Car Park. We start by walking through the fields, across Lingmell Beck to then follow the road to Wasdale Head. We then ascend straight up to the top of Kirk Fell (802m) - Wainright #1. Once up though, that is the only hard ascent of the day done. It is roughly a 700m ascent spanning 1mi/1.6km. Hopefully we will have a clear day and can enjoy views back across Wast Water and out towards where we were Friday up Scafell and Scafell Pike.

It is then a gradual 250m descent, to then ascend up to Pillar (892m) - Wainright #2 - the highest point of today's hike. This is a steady ascent of approx 350m spanning approx 1.5mi/2.6km.

We then make our way around the head of Mosedale, descending a little bit and then ascending a little bit to Scoat Fell (841m) - Wainright #3. For those that want to bag wainrights, we can descend a little to Steeple (819m) - Wainright #4 - then ascend back up to Scoat Fell.

We then make our way around the western side of Mosedale, with a little descent down to Red Pike (Mosedale) - Wainright #5. For those ticking off wainrights ensure you tick off the correct one. There is a Red Pike at Buttermere too (if joined our Lakes trip in August you did that one).

We then descend down to the gap between Red Pike and Yewbarrow. Here there is a path down into Mosedale people struggling can take if they wish. Otherwise, the final ascent and push to Yewbarrow (628m) - Wainright #6 is approx 140m spanning 0.75mi/1.1km.

That's it, all wainrights done! Down Yewbarrow to the road and follow it back to the car park. Well done!
