Itinerary
Meet outside the train station. We start by walking down the cobblestones next to the station and then under the railway. We head up Wood Top Road through the woodland and veer off onto Wood Hey Lane. We walk along this farm road along the hillside to the outskirts of Mytholmroyd. Just before the road has hedges on either side we veer off through a gate to ascend up the hill through a field to a small evergreen forest.
Enjoy the views of Mytholmroyd from this viewpoint before we take a steep ascent through the evergreen woodland. Once up, that's the only tough ascent done. We then follow a path around the hillside for views over the Cragg Vale valley. We continue round until we reach Heseltine Lane we walk along this road briefly before cutting across the moors and come back out onto the same road. We walk along this country road and descend down to Withins Clough Reservoir.
We then walk over the reservoirs dam and follow a footpath around the otherside. Will try to have lunch here. Once ready we ascend up to the ruins of an old victorian house (it was either the reservoir masters house or a farmers or both). We cut across to the main footpath and follow this to the Pennine Way, for sudden stunning views out towards Todmorden.
We follow the Pennine Way to Stoodley Pike monument (pictured - built to celebrate the defeat of Napolean at Waterloo), you can go inside and up to a balcony for better views. Once ready, we follow the Pennine Way towards Hebden Bridge, following it for quite a while down various footpaths and along a farm road into Callis Wood crossing over another farm road twice. Before it veers off down to the canal/river we take a footpath around the hillside, through the woods for views over Mytholm.
The walk ends by following Horsehold Road down to the Co-Op and then along the canal. The walk ends when we reach the park. We can go find a pub & food. Anyone not wishing to do that can walk through the park back to the train station.
