Itinerary
Meet in Old Glossop on the cobblestone corner opposite the The Bulls Head pub. If coming by train you need to walk through Manor Park from Glossop. The walk starts by walking down Wellgate, Hope Street and then half way down Charles Lane where we veer off onto a footpath. The footpath is a long steady ascent up onto Blake Moor, passing evergreen tree plantations continuing to Cock Hill. The path ascends a bit more and then flattens out for a bit, we the descend a little to The Pennine Way.
We follow the Pennine Way along through Torside Clough, cross over the stream and then head up another stream. We veer off across the moors (no footpath) to find the first plane crash site of a Blenheim Mk. I. We then walk back across the moors to the Pennine Way and follow it as it ascends up to Bleaklow Head. We can stop here for lunch.
Once ready we continue following the Pennine Way across the moors, then veer off onto a different footpath that will take us to the pictured plane crash and memorial and Higher Shelf Stones for great views of Snake Pass. We walk along the edge of the hill, steadily desecending at first and then it becomes more steep until we come out onto a farm road. We then follow this farm road through the valley and then through an industrial estate until we are back in Old Glossop. We can then go for food & drink in a pub.
