Itinerary

Meet outside The Royal Oak Hotel. We start by walking up the main road towards Keswick for a brief moment until we can turn onto a road leading up to a hotel. We cross over the stream and then turn right onto a footpath and follow this through woodland and farmland along the bottom of the borrowdale valley. The first 2mi/3.2km is flat.

We cross over the stream here over a bridge and ascend up to Eagle Crag - Wainright #1 (523m). This is a steep 400m incline spanning about 1mi/1.6km. Once we have our breath back and taken in the views, we continue along the fell to Sergeants Crag - Wainright #2 (571m).

Its then a small descent off of Sergeants Crag. Then we steadily ascend as we head around the end of the Borrowdale Valley enjoying views straight down the valley back to where we started in Rosthwaite. We continuing ascending up to Ullscarf - Wainright #3 (723m). This part spans approx 2mi/3.2km and is 200m of ascent overall.

We then descend down to Coldbarrow Fell, walk over the fell and descend a bit more. Then its over the moors - no footpath to follow here - we eventually come to Dock Tarn. We then take a short ascent up to Great Crag - Wainright #4 (449m). Its then over the moors somemore, descending 110m before the final ascent up to Grange Fell - Wainright #5 (415m).

The walk ends by following a footpath down off the fell, over a stream and following another footpath that comes out onto the road to the hotel we were on earlier. We now just retrace our footsteps back to the start and go in the hotel for food & drink.
