Itinerary
Meet at the Y.Dales national park car park (pay & display). The walk starts by walking down Dubb's Lane over the River Wharfe. We then turn onto the Dales Way and follow it for 2.5mi/4km through fields along the valley. We cross over the River Wharfe and walk through the picturesque Starbotton village. Hopefully their nativity display will be out (usually there all year round), last time I drove through it was Shrek, Fiona and Donkey!
We then ascend up an old packhorse road with views up Carn Gill to the top - it is the only ascent of the day - it is approx 2.5mi/4km and 500m of ascent. It is a long steady ascent. It then flattens out and we walk over to Buckden Pike's summit. Will aim for lunch up here.
Once ready, we descend down to Cray Gill, cross over the stream and continue down to the road below. We walk down the road briefly until we can turn off onto a footpath that will take us below Middle Falls (pictured). Its then a steady easy descent down to Buckden. We can then go up Buckden Buck for an optional waterfall, then retrace our steps back to Buckden and go in the pub for food & drink.
