Itinerary

Meet on the corner opposite The Pancake House. We start by walking up the high street through Pateley Bridge and continuing along the main road after it bends round the corner. We then veer off onto the Nidderdale Way footpath and follow this around the back of the houses here out into the countryside. We soon veer off onto a path that leads up to the ruins of a medieval church (similar to Heptonstall's above Hebden Bridge), we can have a look around.

We then follow a footpath through the fields back to the Nidderdale Way and walk along with views of Nidderdale, there's a view point along here. Eventually we come out onto the B6265, we walk up the road briefly until the Nidderdale Way veers off it. We follow the footpath along the hillside until it descends into woodland. Its a short walk through the woodland then we ascend up to a farm at the back off Brimham Rocks. We then ascend up through woodland to the trig point where we can stop for lunch, there is a cafe & toilets. We can go and climb on the rocks if people wish.

Once ready, we walk through the jurassic landscape, through the car park and rejoin the Nidderdale Way. We follow it down to Smelthouses then turn off to walk through farmland to the River Nidd. We walk along the riverside briefly until we can take a bridge across and then walk back on ourselves on the otherside. We walk down the riverside for a while until we can veer off onto dirt tracks that we follow up through the woodland to the top of the hill.

It is then through fields up towards the moors but not quite to the top, we follow a footpath along clifftops for views over the woodland below out towards Pateley Bridge. We follow this path and then cross over the road. We then descend down off the moors, through woodland to Peat Lane and then through the woodland, passing a poind to the the main road which we follow back into Pateley Bridge. Where can get food & drink before heading home. There is also the oldest sweet shop in England here.
