DEC limits hikes in the Catskill to 20 persons.

This hike will be wait-listed with acceptance of only those who have hiked an equally demanding hike with one of the WHMG leaders within the past 3 months. Many things about this hike may change: the route, participants, the weather and possibly the date if Mother Nature deems so. Further, if there is enough rain the day before and/or morning of, this hike might be cancelled last minute! The goal of this hike is to approach KHP and Hurricane Ledge from the south via the rock scramble, but this could change!

The snowmobile and lower trails of this hike are notoriously deep mud and puddles so time to break out the gortex gators and microspikes.

Options not in order of preference:

1-Gillepsie Road approach from the West and short 1/2 mile or so "bushwhack" to snowmobile trail.

2-Platte Clove Road approach up Long Path then "bushwhack" over to Indian camp circle then to plane crash and back on snowmobile trails up the rock scramble to hurricane ledge.

2b. We've missed the path to indian circle & plane crash and continue up to KHP via the north approach. Still unmarked trails with "tamer" rock scrambling.

Difficulty: Moderate hike with some challenging rock scrambles and unmarked trails. Make certain your fitness level & spirit matches this hike's requirements.
