This group is for walkers and hikers over 60 who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. The park is all level and smooth 16 foot wide trails where we can walk and talk. No elevation gain. 2 HOURS, slow pace, 3 MILES.
We start as a group, we hike as a group and we end as a group. Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of walkers and hikers who have similar skills and goals. This is a dog free hiking group.
Trail Head: From the South, DO NOT EXIT THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY FOR FDR STATE PARK (EXIT 16).
Take the next exit 17A, make a right onto Route US 202/35 EAST. Drive 6 tenths of a mile past the entrance for FDR. Make a right into Downing Park. Ignore the sign "Residence Only". Park at first parking area on the left. The small stone building has restrooms at the rear of the building. We will meet in front of the building.
Trail Head: From the North, Exit the Taconic State Parkway at 17A. Make a left onto Route US 202/35 East. Continue as per directions from the South. - CLICK ON READ MORE
Restrooms: At parking lot and at pool are (7 tenths of a mile into the walk).
