With a drizzly forecast ahead for this Saturday, it’s the perfect time to trade the gray skies for the grandeur of the 17th-century English Civil War. Please join me for a special cultural afternoon as we attend the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD screening of Bellini’s final masterpiece, I Puritani.
While we won't be in New York, we’ll have the best seats in the house right here in Allentown at the beautiful Miller Symphony Hall.

About the Opera
I Puritani is the pinnacle of the bel canto (beautiful singing) style. Set against the backdrop of the English Civil War, it tells a sweeping tale of love, political loyalty, and a famous "mad scene." The story follows Elvira, a young Puritan woman, and her Cavalier lover, Arturo, as they navigate a dangerous web of intrigue and betrayal. Expect vocal fireworks, breathtaking melodies, and a world-class cast.
Note on Language: The opera will be performed in its original Italian with English subtitles—so you won't miss a single dramatic beat.
The "After Party": An Italian Supper
Once the final curtain falls, we’ll keep the Italian theme going! For those who wish to join, we will wander over to Simpatico "Modern Italian" (27 N 7th Street), just a short stroll from the hall. It’s a wonderful spot to discuss the performance over a warm "Modern Italian" meal.
Please RSVP with details on if you are coming to the performance and/or if you plan on coming to dinner so I can get a rough head count for the restaurant for Saturday.
