Hello! Jackie here.
Join us on Sunday, November 23rd, 2025, at 10 a.m. for a refreshing late-fall hike as we explore the beautiful trails at Topsmead State Forest in Litchfield, Connecticut. We’ll begin from the parking area on Chase Road and enjoy a scenic loop that takes us along the Edith Chase Ecology Trail, then west to the Chase Connector, continuing on the Bernard Stairs Trail, down Jefferson Hill Road, onto the Red Trail, and then east on the Yellow Trail, creating a lovely loop that reconnects with the Chase Connector.
This route is approximately 3.2 miles, generally considered easy, and typically takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete at a relaxed pace. Please allow a little extra time in case we move more slowly—our goal is connection, not speed.
🌲 Trail Highlights:
Topsmead is a local gem, with well-marked wooded trails, peaceful meadows, and historic charm. This loop features gentle terrain, large boulders, and beautiful late-fall scenery—perfect for reflecting on the past year and setting intentions for the new one. While the reflective goal-setting portion is optional, all are welcome to participate or simply enjoy being in nature together.
🚶‍♀️ Pace:
We’ll set our pace to match the slowest hiker (probably me!) so no one is left behind. This is about connecting with nature, boosting confidence, building fitness, and enjoying good company—not racing.
📍 Meeting Point:
Meet at 10:00 a.m. sharp at the Chase Road parking area, which has the largest lot.
Address: Topsmead State Forest, Chase Road, Litchfield, CT 06759
🎒 What to Bring:
A wise friend once told me, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing!” Please dress accordingly and bring:

  • Hiking shoes
  • Microspikes (optional but helpful if icy)
  • Food, snacks, and water
  • Jacket, gloves, hat
  • Extra clothing (rain gear, socks)
  • Whistle
  • Tissues
  • Photo ID & medical insurance card

😷 COVID Guidelines:
Masks aren’t required outdoors, but please bring one just in case.
🐶 Pets:
Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome! I’ll likely bring Lucy, my joyful trail buddy who loves to lead the way. 🐾
Most Importantly:
Bring your positive energy and a good attitude! My one hiking rule: “No complaining until we’re done.” By the end, I usually feel so good there’s nothing to complain about—let’s all embrace that same spirit together.
