Advanced Canyoning Rope Systems & Skill Share

Hey everyone! I’m hosting a focused, hands-on skill-sharing day dedicated to advanced canyoning rope systems and the critical decision-making behind them.

The goal of this day is to help experienced canyoners think more critically and effectively assist a leader or anchor manager in complex environments. We’ll be geeking out on rigging mechanics, looking at the pros and cons of different setups, and running through plenty of practical repetitions.

The Important Stuff (Disclaimer): This is a community skill-share, not a certification course. The intent is to expand your toolset as a competent team member. Canyoning is inherently risky and this skill-share will help you become more of an asset on trips.

What We’ll Be Covering:
Gear Check & Layout: A look at everyone’s kit and a walkthrough of efficient gear management/layouts.
Essential Knots: Refining the double overhand stopper, figure 8, clove hitch, alpine butterfly, and potentially the stone knot.
Situation Identification: When to deploy specific knots and systems based on the environment (e.g., transitioning your mindset and rigging from a 3AII to a high-consequence 4CIII).
System Mechanics: Evaluating releasable vs. non-releasable, retrievable vs. non-retrievable, and single vs. double rope setups.
Rigging Show & Tell: Diving into the specifics of the Carabiner Block, Twin Isolated setups, EMO, MMO, and more.
Hands-on Practice: Heavy practical iterations so the muscle memory actually sticks.

Who this session is for:
Because we are skipping the basics and moving straight into complex scenarios, this session is tailored for autonomous, independent canyoneers. We want to keep the pace moving safely and ensure everyone gets maximum time on the ropes, so spaces are limited and we are vetting the roster.
It’s nothing personal—we just want to make sure the content matches your current baseline so everyone gets the most out of the day!

How to join:
If you’re keen, please drop me a DM! To help me track numbers and gauge the group's baseline, just let me know a bit about:

  1. Your experience moving independently in unguided, vertical canyons.
  2. The rigging systems you currently use most often.
Looking forward to a solid day of playing with ropes!
